2010 Memphis ADDY Award Winners

Last night was Judgement Day at the AAF Memphis 2010 Annual ADDY Awards. Jerry “The King” Lawler was MC for the event at Minglewood Hall. “The Memphis ADDYs are an award show honoring the best in locally produced advertising and all the disciplines associated with it. Gold and Silver winners advance to the regional ADDYs and then may advance to the national ADDYs.”
The “Best of” and ”Outstanding” special category ADDYs were awarded to: Archer>Malmo, Click-Boom, Combustion, Greater Memphis Chamber, Harvest, Inferno, Live from Memphis, Oden and Red Deluxe.
Receiving the most awards was Harvest with 22 (1 Special, 11 Gold, 10 Silver) followed by Oden with 20 (3 Special, 8 Gold, 9 Silver), Red Deluxe with 17 (1 Special, 8 Gold, 8 Silver), Combustion with 15 (1 Special, 6 Gold, 8 Silver), Archer>Malmo with 15 (1 Special, 8 Gold, 6 Silver), CS2 Advertising with 14 (7 Gold, 7 Silver) and Inferno with 12 (1 Special, 4 Gold, 7 Silver).
Other Gold ADDY winners with 8 or fewer total ADDYs include: Click-Boom, Live from Memphis, Greater Memphis Chamber, Tactical Magic, Counterpart Communication Design, Modern Production Concepts and Briarcrest Christian School.

John Lloyd Young Debuts “Love Believes”


October, 2007, I became a fan of John Lloyd Young when I attended the Broadway production of Jersey Boys. His portrayal of Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys won him the well deserved Tony Award for Best Actor.
Fast forward two and a half years, John Lloyd Young released his debut single, “Love Believes” on Valentine’s Day. This new song is very different from the Jersey Boys CD where he sings lead vocals. Go to iTunes, give it a try and see what you think. I think it’s terrific, still a big fan.

Super Bowl Fact & Figures – Updated 2010

Last January, this GP post gave Super Bowl Facts & Figures….and now, here’s the update to that post.
It seems every year records are broken and 2010 Super Bowl XLIV was no exception, breaking their fair share of records.
Super Bowl XLIV was the most watched show in television history with 51.7 million households and 106.5 million viewers, beating the 1983 M*A*S*H finale.

Nielsen Media Research Estimates more than 154.35 million viewers watched all or part of Super Bowl XLIV in 2010 on CBS.
The market with the highest rating for Super Bowl XLIV is New Orleans with a 56.3 rating and 82 share. (Memphis was 47.7 rating and 65 share for an estimated total of 321,388 households)

Sunlife Financial, the Canadian financial services company, received approximately $26 million in free TV exposure according to Front Row Analytics. The Super Bowl, held at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, helped Sun Life make back most, if not all of the investment spent on the 5 year stadium sponsorship deal. They received 68 separate mentions, including verbal, on-screen text and stadium signage.
Super Bowl XLIV set another record by having the most advertising time in history. According to Kantar Media, CBS aired a record 47 minutes and 50 seconds of advertising, which is 3 minutes more than last year’s record setting game.
Super Bowl XLIV was broadcast around the world. In the United States, CBS on TV and Westwood One on radio. Internationally, Armed Forces Television Super Bowl broadcast was in 175 countries, NFL & NFL International distributed to more than 185 countries in 30 languages.
For players in Super Bowl XLIV, winners received $83,000 per person and losers received $42,000 per person.

2010 Super Bowl XLIV Memphis & National Ratings

Early reports say the 2010 Super Bowl XLIV broadcast, where the New Orleans Saints beat the Indianapolis Colts 31 to 17, was the most watched TV show in television history. TV by the Numbers reports, “Based on time-zone adjusted (but still preliminary) fast nationals, Super Bowl XLIV averaged over 106 million (106.5 million) and is set to overtake the 1983 series finale of M*A*S*H (105.97 million) to become the most-watched program of all time.”
MediaLife Magazine says, “CBS averaged a 46.4 household rating and 68 share from 6:45 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (eastern), according to Nielsen’s metered-market numbers. That was up 10 percent over last year’s 42.1/65 for the Pittsburgh Steelers-Arizona Cardinals contest on NBC, which set a record with 98.7 million total viewers.” Check out the historical national Super Bowl facts and figures on this Adweek chart.
According to the preliminary Memphis Nielsen overnight ratings for WREG, the local CBS affiliate, the 2010 Super Bowl XLIV averaged a 47.7 household rating and 65 share. The 47.7 household rating translates to 321,388 households. The largest number of Mid-South viewers tuned in between 8:30pm & 8:45pm (central) averaging a 55.3 rating and a 72 share.
