Blogs, Bloggers, Blogging: Stats & Demographics
As we approach the first anniversary of Graber Partners News & Notes, it seems appropriate to look at blogs and bloggers stats and demographics, the same way we analyze any media. The info in the links below gives great insight on blogs, bloggers and blogging.
“State of the Blogosphere” for 2008 by Technorati has an interesting compilation of facts, figures and demographics. According to Technorati, blogging is “here to stay: Bloggers have been at it an average of three years and are collectively creating close to one million posts every day. Blogs have representation in top-10 web site lists across all key categories, and have become integral to the media ecosystem.”
And this article from Caslon Analytics gives even more information about ”Blogging: Statistics and Demographics“. Read about the growth of blogging and the lifespan of a typical blog. “Several studies indicate that most blogs are abandoned soon after creation (with 60% to 80% abandoned within one month, depending on whose figures you choose to believe) and that few are regularly updated.”
GP News & Notes has beat the odds. Media, Advertising & Memphis continues to be the primary focus of each post. It’s been fascinating to watch visitor levels or lack of. Some posts receive very little attention, while others show substantial visitor spikes according to the stats and analytics I review on a regular basis. The huge increase in visitors seem to be driven by search and referrers.
Thanks for visiting….come back soon!

Royal Caribbean International has launched their first new integrated advertising campaign in nearly 10 years. Read the whole story here.
To make sure they are living up to the promises made in the new ad campaign, I will personally become a Citizen of the Nation of Why Not. Hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving, see you in a week.

The Twitter Mad Men Revealed
As a loyal viewer of Mad Men on AMC, I became fascinated with the Mad Men characters that started posting tweets on Twitter. They mostly stayed in character as they interacted with each others and their fans. A Business Week story from Sept 8, 2008 details Mad Men on Twitter and digs into the background and identities of these impostors. But most of the identities remained confidential.
Yesterday, the brilliant instigator of this social experiment revealed himself on his blog. Here’s his story. I must applaud the creativity in this social networking initiative. Hopefully, AMC appreciates his help in promoting their highly acclaimed Mad Men.

Justin Timberlake on SNL Weekend Update
Last night, Justin Timberlake from Millington, TN (just outside of Memphis) made an appearance on NBC’s Saturday Night Live. This is a great bit he did on SNL Weekend Update. It’s a his 2 minute version of the show he was scheduled to host next week, but had to cancel.
Also, there was an SNL skit with Timberlake as a back-up dancer for Beyonce in a video parody for “Single Ladies” which was quite popular on You Tube until it was removed.
